Arrive by Air
The first thing you need to do is arrive in Dubai. As one of the biggest tourist attractions in the world, you can expect thousands of flights to be coming in every week. There are two main airports that tourists and travellers can arrive at. The Dubai International Airport, also referred to as DBX, was first developed in the 1960s. This is the first gateway many new arrivals will witness, making it the not only the busiest in the city but the whole world too. The main passenger airport will be packed with hundreds of people getting into the city. This might make it difficult for your first time but the security is worth it.
You could also try arriving at the Al Maktoum International Airport, also known as DWC. This new airport is relatively new, as it is currently part of an extensive development plan. It will be part of an entire complex of buildings that will span over 6.7 million square kilometres. These new buildings will include restaurants, housing, leisure activities and several retail chains. While not all have been built yet, you can keep it in mind for the future so that you can arrive with hundreds of new services on offer.
Travel By Land
Travelling the city by car is one of the most common and popular methods for Dubai visitors. This is why you are more than likely to run into many rental services where you can hire a car. Depending on the type of vehicle you are looking for, there are many options to choose from. If you have a lot of people, you may need something large like an SUV. If it’s just you or your partner, a sports car can be rented out if you wish. Even if it’s just for the day, the rental services can have cars in all shapes and sizes. This includes:
- Hyundai Elantra
- Chevrolet Camaro
- Jaguar F-Type
- Toyota Fortuner
- Range Rover
- Nissan Maxima
- Ferrari
If a car isn’t your thing, you find other mobility options for quicker travel. You can find bike rental shops in Dubai for much cheaper prices. These don’t have to be motorbikes either. Just regular bikes can be rented out for multiple days so you can take to the streets. The city offers plenty of parking spots for your bike to secure it safely while you go on foot.
Travel By Sea
Cruising in Dubai has become even more popular thanks to the help of local businesses. The biggest contributors are Dubai Cruise Terminal, found in the Mina Rashid, and Dubai Harbour at the Dubai Marina. Going to these two places will give you the best deals on how to explore the Persian Gulf. This span of ocean stretches over the entire city, thanks to it being built just on the coast. You can choose multiple sea-based transports that can accommodate for different situations.
IF you are thinking of just seeing the sights, there are shuttle buses designed with specific routes. This lets you take in most parts of the city from the most scenic parts of the coast. IF you are thinking about having a party on the sea, you can find yacht rentals as well. This lets you support your party with a full ship and crew. You can even order extra services like catering or ceremonies whilst you travel by yacht. Other water-based vehicles can be hired for sporting events, like speed boats or sailing. All ports can come with free wifi and food areas.
Public Transport
If you ever need any help from public transport, Dubai has you covered. With so many people in the city, there are multiple services available for the regular citizens or those that stay for longer. You can use buses to get around the city like everyone else. The times of the buses can be viewed online or through a helpful app you can download. Since there are a few canals that go through the city, you can even hire a water taxi. This lets you hire a small boat which will carry you to different parts of the city by cutting through the small rivers.
Dubai uses a special rechargeable ticket called a Nol Card. This lets you get your tickets at much cheaper prices by reusing the card over and over. This ticket can be used for multiple services, not just the bus. This can be used for trams and taxis located everywhere you go. Purchase your Nol Card at the Dubai Metro Station or other available bus stations. You can also purchase it from supermarkets such as the Carrefour, Spinneys, or the Waitrose centre. You can purchase different levels which offer more affordable travel services. Rankings come in Gold, Silver, and Blue.
Travel By Monorail
The only type of public transport that doesn’t support the Nol Card is the Palm Monorail. This special transport system was first created back in 2009. It is exclusive to the island of Palm Jumeirah, a memorable Dubai neighbourhood that is connected to the rest of the city thanks to this system alone. You can use this urban mobility to travel to the most popular part of the city and explore more it has to offer. Once you start at your destination, there is a parking area that has over 1,600 parking spots. You can drop off any land-based vehicle you have rented or bought and take the Monorail straight to the island.
The Monorail will be running at regular intervals and makes a total of six stops. You will start at the Gateway Station. This will then let passengers stop at the four locations between this and the island. This includes:
- Golden Mile Galleria
- Al Ittihad Park
- Nakheel Mall
- Atlantis Aquaventure Waterpark Station
The final stop will then be at The Palm. It has close links to the Dubai Tram service, so you will have plenty of other services to use once you get off.
